Abstract Many ingenious methods for primary repair of the severed parotid duct have been suggested.1-14 All of these have in common the passing of a dowel or hollow tube through the cut ends of the duct and approximation with fine sutures. Baron15 in 1961 described a method of ligation of the parotid duct for the correction of salivary fistula. However, not since 1917 has the problem of secondary surgical repair of parotid duct fistula and sialocele been reviewed in the literature. Morestin,1 at that time, after an extensive experience with war injuries, described various methods of dealing with this distressing problem. This paper deals with a method of converting a chronic external salivary fistula or sialocele into an intraoral fistula with the preservation of parotid gland function. Anatomy The parotid gland is the largest of the salivary glands and is located mainly in the retromandibular fossa. It extends References 1.
