Use of the Ileal Conduit in Traumatic Paraplegia

Use of the Ileal Conduit in Traumatic Paraplegia Abstract We recently had occasion to treat a case of traumatic paraplegia in which urinary tract complications developed that were of sufficient gravity to endanger the patient's life. An ileal conduit was established with a gratifying result. Since the problem of bladder management in the paraplegic remains, in many instances, an unsolved one, we were prompted to review the literature to determine the current status of this operation in traumatic paraplegia. To our surprise only two or three allusions to its use could be found in a careful review of the American and British literature. It therefore seemed worth while to report this case, and, by a brief survey of the problem of bladder management in the paraplegic, place this procedure in its proper perspective.
