Silver's Syndrome: Syndrome of Congenital Asymmetry, Short Stature, and Altered Pattern of Sexual Development

Silver's Syndrome: Syndrome of Congenital Asymmetry, Short Stature, and Altered Pattern of Sexual... Abstract Between 1953 and 1959, Silver 1-3 reported 5 cases of a syndrome characterized by congenital asymmetry, shortness of stature, and elevated urinary gonadotropins. Because of the increased levels of urinary gonadotropins, he predicted 4 that some of the children with this syndrome would be expected to exhibit deviations from the usual pattern of sexual development. This is a report of 2 girls with atypical forms of the syndrome described by Silver in one of whom the first menstrual period occurred at the age of 9½ years, while in the other it took place at 11 years at a time when epiphyseal development was only at an 8-year-old level. Report of Cases Case 1.—A Spanish-American girl was seen at the University of Colorado Medical Center at the age of 11¼ years because of vaginal bleeding. According to the mother's and doctor's calculations, she had been born at term, References 1. Silver, H. K.; Kiyasu, W.; George, J., and Deamer, W.
