Abstract The American Association of Blood Banks has expanded its Bulletin into a full-fledged journal, Transfusion. The justification for another journal is said to be a growing need for an outlet for papers on blood group immunology, genetics and anthropology, blood preservation, and general transfusion problems. It was felt that the paucity of American journals specializing in the transfusion sciences had caused this material to become hopelessly dispersed in a large number and variety of periodicals. The editor-in-chief of the new journal, Tibor Greenwalt, and the list of associate and consulting editors plus the advisory editorial board reads like a "Who's Who in Blood Banking." The first issue commemorates the diamond jubilee of Landsteiner's original article, On Agglutination of Normal Human Blood, and contains a translation of that historic paper for those who enjoy ancient lore.
