Abstract This little book of only 102 pages is a gem of conciseness and clarity. It accomplishes the goal of the author to introduce basic virus procedures to bacteriologists and pathologists. The book can also serve as an excellent introduction for clinicians. It is based upon lectures and laboratory exercises in a medical school. The author is well qualified to present this subject, having worked in this field for many years. He is at present Director of the Division of Laboratories and Research of the New York State Department of Health in Albany. Some references are given in the text. However, a more complete bibliography would give those interested considerable help in extending their horizons under proper guidance. This is particularly true of the first eight chapters dealing with the nature ofviruses and diseases caused by viruses.
