INFANTILE OBESITY Lorenzi di Credi (1453-about 1535), the Tuscan painter, fellow student of Leonardi da Vinci under Andreas Verocchio, painted many Madonnas and Holy Families. One of the latter in the Dresden Picture Gallery shows a good example of infantile obesity. The increased number of folds in the skin due to the fat underneath are particularly well done. It may be noted that although according to Holy Writ the Christ Child was circumcised on the eighth day there is no evidence of it. This is common to all the pictures of the infant Jesus. In one of the galleries in Venice I thought from a photograph that this was not the case, but an inspection of the painting showed it followed the rule.
