Abstract The Harvard Medical School, Boston, has announced that The Iacocca Foundation has pledged $1.5 million to endow a professorship in medicine in honor of Mary K. Iacocca, the late wife of Chrysler Corporation chairman, Lee A. Iacocca. The Mary K. Iacocca Chair in Medicine will be dedicated to research in the field of diabetes and metabolism and will be located at the Harvard-affiliated Joslin Diabetes Center. Mrs Iacocca died of complications of diabetes in 1983. Named as the first Mary K. Iacocca professor was Dr C. Ronald Kahn, 42, whose work in diabetes research, particularly on insulin receptors, has won considerable praise. Dr Daniel C. Tosteson, dean of the Harvard Medical School, called the endowment "a fitting way to help relieve the burden of illness for the 11 to 12 million Americans who suffer from diabetes. Only through research will medical science be able to improve treatment and develop methods http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Archives of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery American Medical Association
