Value of Chest Roentgenograms in Mediastinoscopy: A Retrospective Study

Value of Chest Roentgenograms in Mediastinoscopy: A Retrospective Study Abstract The indications for and limitations of mediastinoscopy are becoming more clearly defined as its clinical use becomes more prevalent. This study compares the retrospective roentgen findings to the results of mediastinoscopy in 100 cases. In 83% of the cases, the results of the mediastinoscopy could be predicted by the appearance of the chest roentgenogram. Seventeen percent of the cases showed no correlation, and in this group 6% were positive at mediastinoscopy when the films showed no mediastinal abnormality. In the evaluation of patients for mediastinal disease, the careful analysis of chest roentgenograms prior to mediastinoscopy will provide useful prognostic information. References 1.
