Eustachian Tube Irradiation With Strontium 90

Eustachian Tube Irradiation With Strontium 90 Abstract Strontium 90 treatment of eustachian tubes in ears with chronic otitis media and which had had unsuccessful results with tympanoplasty was found ineffective in 90% of the cases when applied to eustachian tubes with type V function. When this procedure was used on eustachian tubes with types III and IV function, our results of 43% successes, while better than those for type V, differed greatly from the 70% success recently reported by Beck. A different group of our patients with eustachian tube function of types III and IV did not receive 90Sr treatment and had successful results with tympanoplasty in 76.5% of the cases at an average follow-up time of one year.
