Abstract Strontium 90 treatment of eustachian tubes in ears with chronic otitis media and which had had unsuccessful results with tympanoplasty was found ineffective in 90% of the cases when applied to eustachian tubes with type V function. When this procedure was used on eustachian tubes with types III and IV function, our results of 43% successes, while better than those for type V, differed greatly from the 70% success recently reported by Beck. A different group of our patients with eustachian tube function of types III and IV did not receive 90Sr treatment and had successful results with tympanoplasty in 76.5% of the cases at an average follow-up time of one year.
