Let Us Not Forget the Lesson of Julius Lempert Abstract IT IS fitting that George E. Shambaugh, Jr., Chief Editor of the Archives of Otolaryngology has dedicated this issue to the memory of Julius Lempert, for Lempert was one of the greatest otologic surgeons the world has ever known. Through his genius and his teaching, he improved the otologic surgical skills of all of us, with great benefit to humanity. Many honors were bestowed upon Lempert during his lifetime. Some of them were: the Gold Medal Award of the American Medical Association (1949); the Order of the Cruzeiro do Sul by the Brazilian Government (1949); a citation from the United States Navy (1948); a citation from the United States Department of Defense (1953); an honorary Doctor of Medicine degree from the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden (1951); an honorary Doctor of Science degree from Colby College, Waterville, Maine (1953); the Royal Order of Vasa Knighthood First Class from His Majesty the References 1.
