Abstract A SURVEY of the literature shows hemangioendotheliosarcomas to be extremely rare tumors. They are especially rare when studies are confined to their occurrence in the larynx. This is a report of a case with wildly malignant disease and rapidly fatal outcome. Review of Literature Due to the irregular terminology and classification of these tumors in the literature, a systematic listing and analysis of the previously reported cases seems impossible. Therefore, certain highlights only will be noted. In 1892 Bosworth1 reviewed 46 cases of sarcoma of the larynx. The accuracy of the diagnosis is questionable in many instances. In 1908 Mallory2 first used the term hemangioendothelioma to describe a malignant vascular tumor placing responsibility for the aggressive growth on the endothelial cell.In 1924 Yankauer3 reported an angiosarcoma growing as a pedunculated lesion on one vocal cord.In 1929 Jackson reported 643 tumors of the larynx with no References 1.
