Abstract This is an interesting book by Miss Muriel Morley, who is one of the leading British authorities in the field of speech pathology. The first section of the book presents data from a study of the speech development of the children in 1000 families in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. These data are roughly similar to those from other surveys of speech defects made in the United States. It is significant that different investigators using different methods have arrived at quite similar results. The remaining sections of the book consider three main types of speech defects—delayed development of speech, defective articulation (caused by various factors), and stammering (generally referred to as stuttering in the United States). There is a great deal of information here, but because of the space problem the subject of treatment is somewhat compressed.
