Tripathi, PhD, Promoted. —Brenda J. Tripathi, PhD, was promoted recently to full professorial rank in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at The University of Chicago (Ill). In addition, Dr Tripathi was elected to the Board of Directors of the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness (ISPB) at the society's annual meeting on November 19, 1991. The ISPB is a philanthropic organization dedicated to the prevention of blindness through its educational activities, research support, and promotion of other aspects of vision care. Lions Announce $1.5 Million Grant. —Lions Clubs International has granted $1.5 million in funding for a cataract surgery outreach program in India, which has one of the world's largest blind populations. The program marks the beginning of Lions' concerted attack on blindness in India through SightFirst, the organization's $130 million initiative to rid the world of preventable and reversible blindness.
