Abstract This appealing book was written by a neurophysiologist from Cambridge, England. It is directed toward medical students who wish to know more about the subject, to the scientifically oriented physiology or psychology student, and lastly but perhaps chiefly, to the research worker who may well have a need for an up-to-date reference book. The presentation is uniform as can be expected from a single author who does not shy away from presenting his view, even at the risk of introducing a personal bias into a subject like Listing's law (on p 125 he states, "It is clear that Listing's Law is the result of an active neural mechanism."). The presentation is well illustrated and supplemented by mathematical treatment where it can be done simply.
