TAUT'S THE WORD

Abstract To the Editor. —In the impressive and well-written article on vitreoretinal traction in macular retinography, by Tolentino et al in the July issue of the Archives (78:23-30, 1967), this sentence occurs on page 25: "Occasionally, it [the vitreous] was also detached over the macula, but taunt bands connected the detached cortex with the macular region, causing vitreoretinal traction."Although macular detachment can make a mockery of visual acuity, did the authors intend to describe the bands as "taut" (tight) rather than "taunt"? Or, less likely, was "taunt" used in the nautical sense (meaning "tall"?) http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Archives of Ophthalmology American Medical Association
