Arteriovenous Aneurysm of the Vein of Galen

Arteriovenous Aneurysm of the Vein of Galen Abstract Arteriovenous aneurysm of the vein of Galen is a rare malformation. This paper presents the pathologic and clinical features of an additional case. These findings are compared with the data of previous cases in the literature. Report of a Case This white male infant was 6 weeks old when he was admitted to Montefiore Hospital on March 2, 1959. The mother's pregnancy, labor, and delivery had been normal. The child weighed 8 lb. 10 oz. (3,910 gm.) at birth but was persistently cyanotic. In the second week of life an episode of dyspnea and tachypnea occurred. The patient was admitted to another hospital, where a roentgenogram of the chest showed focal atelectasis of the upper aspects of both lungs and increased aeration of the right lower lung. An ECG revealed right axis and right ventricular preponderance. Family history was significant in that a distant maternal cousin died of congenital heart References 1. Alpers, B. J., and Forster, F.
