Abstract Caustic commentaries on the state of American Medicine continue to be pronounced at a high rate. Hearings conducted before Senator Edward Kennedy's senate subcommittee on the state of health care in the nation are frequently punctuated by testimony from disaffected patients and distressed community workers. These hearings, though well-publicized in the press, are not easy to obtain in the form of proceedings. Another set of interviews, however, is available, and this collection proves to be an extraordinarily trenchant record of unhappy experiences with American health care facilities and personnel. Presented in the form of a pamphlet, entitled Heal Your Self, this monograph is a most important publication. It emanates from the universities of California and North Carolina and is the official and final report of a special study group that was organized by these two universities.
