Abstract This small book, entitled A Manual of Microscopic Technics, covers the subject with brevity and clarity. The book contains brief but adequate sections on the basic principles of the light, dark field, phase, polarizing, steroscopic, fluorescence, and electronmicrocopies. It gives accounts of photomicrography, microprojection, and the preparation and staining of tissues for microscopic examination, including many of the special histological staining methods. Histochemistry and cytochemistry are not included. A special chapter considers methods of examining blood and bone marrow preparations. An especially useful feature is the presentation of most of the histological methods in the form of tables and schemas. All this the authors accomplish in 218 pages! Obviously the authors are not able in such a small compass to give the wealth of detail that has accumulated in all these areas. Persons interested in this will have to consult the standard monographs are these subjects.
