Abstract This twenty-sixth volume of the "Medizinische Praxis" series is concerned primarily with the surgical diseases of the lung and pleura. Its purpose is the succinct compilation and presentation for the practicing physician of the material on surgical management of the commoner diseases of the lung and pleura. Accordingly, it succeeds in being a compendious review of these conditions. Obviously, completeness in respect to details must be sacrificed. Among the conditions considered by the author are abscess and gangrene of the lung, bronchiectasis, pulmonary tuberculosis, empyema, tumors, parasitic diseases and fungous infection of the lung and pleura. The well established indications and rationale of the various methods of conservative and operative management of these conditions are discussed. Appropriately, the greatest amount of space is devoted to tuberculosis. The indications and various technics of collapse therapy are briefly described.
