Abstract Applied Immunodermatology, a clinically oriented primer in the Topics in Clinical Dermatology series, attempts to provide a clinically relevant, scientifically sound overview of immunodermatology for students and clinicians. The majority of the text is clearly written and benefits from the inclusion of clear, complete tables and figures. The index is complete and helpful. A major liability in the text is the photographs, particularly those demonstrating immunofluorescent findings, which do not reproduce well. The book is organized into 10 chapters, five of which are authored or coauthored by the editor. The remaining chapters are victims of "multiauthored textbook disease," a not uncommon syndrome in dermatology texts characterized by progressive style variation, focus atresia, and duplication. For example, tests to evaluate immune function are discussed under "Methods in Immunodermatology" (chapter 2), "Infections" (chapter 10), and "Appendix C." The bibliographies are not standardized; references are cited both in sequence and alphabetically.
