Abstract This two-volume book contains 58 chapters on various aspects of basic science of the skin, and is written by 85 authors, each of whom is an expert in the field. In the preface, Dr Goldsmith indicates that his book is an up-to-date version of Rothman's The Physiology and Biochemistry of the Skin, published in 1954, on which we (old timers) had heavily relied as an information source. Dr Goldsmith is correct in that none of the available texts have achieved the same level as Dr Rothman's book. Since a recent trend in dermatological research is to publish articles in specialty journals that cover the variety of basic science fields, as well as in dermatological journals, the gathering of complete references has become more difficult than ever before. Therefore, Dr Goldsmith's endeavor is timely, as this comprehensive book fills our needs and helps to provide background information on biochemistry and physiology http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Archives of Dermatology American Medical Association
