Abstract This monograph is a comprehensive and timely review of the subject of acne vulgaris. Dr. Frank has assembled and sorted reports from the vast literature that has accumulated over the years on the subject and in particular the results of the accelerated research of the past decade or so. That he has amply succeeded is a tribute not only to his considerable efforts, but also to Dr. Frank himself who, although not engaged in acne research, has nonetheless authored a complete and perceptive review. Almost every conceivable aspect of acne vulgaris has been covered in painstaking detail, and there are also sections devoted to the allied conditions of acne rosacea, tropical acne, chloracne, and even to distantly related —although not entirely unwelcome—items such as nevus comedonicus, perforating folliculitis, and keratosis pilaris. The subject matter is presented logically and lucidly.
