Abstract To the Editor.— We would like to report the findings of macrocytic changes occurring in the blood of six patients being treated for psoriasis with hydroxyurea. All six patients were in reasonably good health except for severe psoriasis. All patients except one had at least a temporary therapeutic response to hydroxyurea. Five of the patients received 1 gm of hydroxyurea per day. Two patients received the medication for 15 weeks, one for 20 weeks, and one for 13 weeks. The fifth patient developed pneumonia after having taken hydroxyurea for approximately six weeks. Administration of hydroxyurea was then stopped for one month, after which time it was restarted and continued for another 12 weeks. The sixth patient received 1 gm daily for eight weeks. The dose was then increased to 1.25 gm daily. The latter dose was taken for a period of 11 weeks.Peripheral blood smears from each of the http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Archives of Dermatology American Medical Association
