GIANT-CELL ARTERITIS

GIANT-CELL ARTERITIS Abstract To the Editor.— In connection with the communication by Hitch,1 I feel it would be of some interest to make your readers aware of another case of necrotizing skin involvement in giant-cell arteritis (Horton's disease).I had the opportunity to report2 the case of a 76-year-old man with bilateral amaurosis, necrosis of the tongue, and a large area of scalp necrosis. Biopsy of temporal artery showed typical histologic features, including giant-cell infiltration of arterial wall. The survey of the literature suggests that this is the first report of a case with severe clinical involvement of three localizations, ie, eye, skin, and tongue.
