Abstract To the Editor.— "Oral florid papillomatosis" is just as clumsy as it sounds; it's exactly like saying "a red big apple" or "a blue clear sky" or "an old high time" instead of "a big red apple," "a clear blue sky," and "a high old time." A lot of people have been saying and writing it, and no criticism attaches to Dr. Kanee for following his predecessors' example. But couldn't we please free ourselves from this awkward name by editorial fiat? "Florid oral papillomatosis" would be clear as crystal and it would sound natural; it would, in fact, be good idiomatic American English, which the other is not. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Archives of Dermatology American Medical Association
