LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS UNGIUM MUTILANS TREATED WITH GOLD AND SODIUM THIOSULPHATE: REPORT OF A CASE Abstract A careful review of the literature shows that in only ten instances has lupus erythematosus involved the fingers and hands sufficiently to cause destruction of the nails and limitation of motion to such an extent that complete disability has resulted. Such a case and the results of treatment with gold and sodium thiosulphate are reported herein. REPORT OF CASE Clinical History.— J. W. R., aged 49, was first seen on July 6, 1925, and his complaint at that time was loss in weight, weakness and a skin eruption that involved the face, ears, back, arms, legs, hands and feet. The eruption rendered him almost a cripple. He had not worked for seven years until recently, when he became a helper in a pressing establishment.The family history revealed no tuberculosis or serious disease in his parents or immediate relatives.The patient's history, except for the usual diseases of childhood, was References 1.
