    Interdigital Friction Burns by Loose Elastic

    Abstract

    Abstract ALPERT et al1 and Curran2 recently reported digital strangulation by hair wrapping. Shortly thereafter, a type of interdigital injury not previously described was encountered in this practice. Report of Cases Case 1.—An 18-month-old male infant was found to have the ankle elastic of his terry cloth sleeper caught between the first and second toe of the right foot. The elastic, sewn to the inner circumference of the pajama bootee, had separated in part from the terry cloth material, permitting it to become caught between the toes. The mother, an intelligent, well-adjusted housewife, noted a bright red line extending forward on the plantar surface into the interdigital area between the first two toes. Three to four days later she observed a blister and, fearing infection, sought medical attention.Examination revealed a 20 × 3 mm linear erythema with superimposed blister.
