The formulation of a relativistic restricted multiconfigurational self-consistent-field theory for open-shell atoms is given. The relativistic Hamiltonian is the sum of the one-electron Dirac-Hamiltonian and the two-electron Coulomb-repulsion terms. The total wave function is assumed to consist...
Recent high-energy measurements of K -shell x -ray yields produced by proton impact are compared with the binary-encounter-impulse approximation and with previous measurements. The scaling law derived from the binary-encounter model is found to be in good agreement with experiment.
By means of the atomic-beam-magnetic-resonance method we have measured the P 3 2 2 level hfs and the P 3 2 2 and P 1 2 2 level g J factors of the Bi 209 ( 6 p ) 3 ground configuration. Our experimental results are: A ( P 3 2 2 ) = 491.028 ( 1 ) MHz, B ( P 3 2 2 ) = 978.639 ( 9 ) MHz, C ( P 3 2 2...
A method for obtaining electromagnetic many-body forces using canonical transformations is described. The Hamiltonian thus derived is more general than that of Primakoff and Holstein.
An argument is given which shows that there is no undetermined constant in values of the exchange energy of solid He 3 obtained from pressure measurements.
A high-resolution study of the He II λ 4686 Å ( n = 3 - 4 ) line complex emitted from a cooled hollow cathode has been made using a double-etalon spectrometer with photoelectric detection. Computer analysis of the digitally recorded spectra of this line yields fine-structure and isotope-shift...
A liquid cluster of identical molecules is considered, and it is concluded that in the case of classical systems: (i) The macroscopic rotation can be defined irrespective of the molecular mobility. (ii) The canonical partition function is approximately separable into translational, rotational,...
The radiative lifetimes of the ten fine-structure levels of the 2 p 5 3 p configuration of singly charged sodium, and eight of the ten fine-structure levels of the 2 p 5 3 p configuration of doubly charged magnesium, have been measured by the beam-foil excitation technique. Systematic trends of...
The dissociation and ionization cross sections of the H 2 + molecular ion due to electron impact have been studied using the classical impulse approximation. The effect of the Coulomb field of the molecular ion is explicitly included in the calculation. The results are compared with other...
Absolute cross sections for electron capture into the 3 p and 3 d states of hydrogen have been measured for 10- to 100-keV proton impact on He, Ne, Ar, H 2 , N 2 , and O 2 . Improved 3 s cross sections are presented for these gases from 10 to 120 keV. An apparent maximum in the 3 p cross section...
