Polarized protons have been used to measure the analyzing powers for the reaction 5 9 CO(p,γ) * 0 Ni leading to the first excited 2+ state of 6 0 Ni in the region of the giant dipole resonance. The extracted a 2 and b 2 coefficients are compared to a direct‐semidirect calculation.
