The Topnaar which live in the Namib Desert have only been studied superficially. This article gives some sociological, historical and general interest information about these wonderful people.
The Kuiseb Topnaar use some 50 defferent plants for food, woodfuel, consmetics, as drugs, for construction, . . . . The different plants are presented here and their uses discussed and compared to uses in other settings.
The Topnaar basically live in two distinct areas in the Namib Desert i.e. the Kuiseb river valley and the Sesfontein area. The ecology of both these zones is presented and discussed in detail. Specific attention is given to the plant communities that occur in both of them.
