FindingsIn this cohort study, 145 kidney grafts donated after euthanasia were compared with 1936 donated after circulatory death after withdrawal of life-sustaining therapies and 1255 donated after brain death. Kidney grafts donated after euthanasia had less delayed graft function compared with those donated after circulatory death after withdrawal of life-sustaining therapies and had graft function similar to that in grafts donated after brain death; there were no differences in graft and patient survival between the 3 cohorts. MeaningThe findings suggest that organ donation after euthanasia can safely enlarge the kidney donor pool.
