Ranking Fuzzy Numbers with an Area Method Using Circumcenter of Centroids

Rao, P. Phani Bushan; Shankar, N. Ravi

2013 Fuzzy Information and Engineering

doi: 10.1007/s12543-013-0129-1

AbstractThis paper proposes a new method for ranking fuzzy numbers based on the area between circumcenter of centroids of a fuzzy number and the origin. The proposed method not only uses an index of optimism, which reflects the decision maker's optimistic attitude but also makes use of an index of modality which represents the importance of mode and spreads. This method ranks various types of fuzzy numbers which includes normal, generalized trapezoidal and triangular fuzzy numbers along with crisp numbers which are a special case of fuzzy numbers. Some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the validity and advantages of the proposed method.

Mehar's Methods for Fuzzy Assignment Problems with Restrictions

Kumar, Amit; Gupta, Anila

2013 Fuzzy Information and Engineering

doi: 10.1007/s12543-013-0131-7

AbstractIn this paper, limitations of existing methods [5, 11] for solving fuzzy assignment problems (FAPs) are pointed out. In order to overcome the limitations of existing methods, two new methods named Mehar's methods are proposed. To show the advantages of Mehar's methods over existing methods, some FAPs are solved. The Mehar's methods can solve the problems solved by existing methods as well as those which cannot be solved by existing methods.

Solution of Dual Fuzzy Polynomial Equations by Modified Adomian Decomposition Method

Mosleh, Maryam

2013 Fuzzy Information and Engineering

doi: 10.1007/s12543-013-0132-6

AbstractIn this paper, we present some efficient numerical algorithm for solving dual fuzzy polynomial equations based on Newton's method. The modified Adomian decomposition method is applied to construct the numerical algorithms. Some numerical illustrations are given to show the efficiency of the algorithms.

On (∈, ∈ ∨qk)-fuzzy Ideals of Ordered Semigroups

Tang, Jian; Xie, Xiang-Yun

2013 Fuzzy Information and Engineering

doi: 10.1007/s12543-013-0128-2

AbstractIn this paper, the concept of (∈, ∈ ∨qk)-fuzzy ideals of an ordered semigroup S is introduced by the ordered fuzzy points of S, and related properties are investigated. Furthermore, we introduce the concept of prime (∈, ∈ ∨qk)-fuzzy ideals of ordered semigroups, and give some characterizations of them. As an application results of this paper, the corresponding results in ordinary semigroups can be also obtained by moderate modification.

A New Approach to Find Project Characteristics and Multiple Possible Critical Paths in a Fuzzy Project Network

Sireesha, V.; Shankar, N. Ravi

2013 Fuzzy Information and Engineering

doi: 10.1007/s12543-013-0133-5

AbstractGraphs are widely used to represent data and relationships. Among all graphs, a particularly useful family is the family of trees. In this paper, we utilize a rooted tree to describe a fuzzy project network as it enables simplification in finding earliest starting times and trapezoidal fuzzy numbers to express the operation times for all activities in project network. As there is an increasing demand that the decision maker needs “Multiple possible critical paths” to decrease the decision risk for project management, in this paper, we introduce an effective graphical method to compute project characteristics such as total float, earliest and latest times of activities in fuzzy project network and a new ranking to find possible critical paths. Numerical example is provided to explain the proposed procedure in detail; the results have shown that the procedure is very useful and flexible in finding total floats. By comparing the critical paths obtained by this method with the previous methods, it is shown that the proposed method is effective in finding possible critical paths.

Duality Theorems in Fuzzy Optimization Problems

Nehi, H. Mishmast; Drayab, A.

2013 Fuzzy Information and Engineering

doi: 10.1007/s12543-013-0130-8

AbstractSeveral duality formulation and theorems, and relationship between them in fuzzy programming problems have been studied in literature by various authors under different conditions. In this paper, by considering a partial order relation on the set of fuzzy numbers, and convexity with differentiability of fuzzy mappings, we discuss duality theorems and relationships between them in fuzzy optimization problems with fuzzy coefficients.

bi-Strong Smarandache BL-algebras

Abbasloo, Mahdieh; Saeid, Arsham Borumand

2013 Fuzzy Information and Engineering

doi: 10.1007/s12543-013-0134-4

AbstractIn this paper, we introduce the notion of bi-Smarandache BL-algebra, bi-weak Smarandache BL-algebra, bi-Q-Smarandache ideal and bi-Q-Smarandache implicative filter, we obtain some related results and construct quotient of bi-Smarandache BL-algebras via MV-algebras (or briefly bi-Smarandache quotient BL-algebra) and prove some theorems. Finally, the notion of bi-strong Smarandache BL-algebra is presented and relationship between bi-strong Smarandache BL-algebra and bi-Smarandache BL-algebra are studied.

Similarity Coefficient in Soft Set Theory

Yang, Yong; Zeng, Ling; Tan, Xia; Chen, Hao

2013 Fuzzy Information and Engineering

doi: 10.1007/s12543-013-0135-3

AbstractThe concept of similarity is fundamentally important in almost every scientific field. Since Molodtsov originated the idea of soft sets, few research on similarity between soft sets has been done in the literature. In this paper, we define the notion of similarity coefficient between soft sets, and study the properties that are interesting and valuable in the theory of soft sets. Finally, we illustrate the effectiveness of the similarity coefficient in practical problems with examples.
