An hypothesized relationship between a leader's verbal agreement with group members and the effectiveness and maintenance of that individual's leadership was subjected to an experimental test. Support is provided for the concept of a process of mutual reinforcement in which a leader's agreement is perceived by members as objectivity, eliciting from them statements supportive of the leader and greater satisfaction with the final group product.

The Bells, although universally described by critics as melodrama, departs markedly from the traits most usually associated with the form. An investigation of this seeming contradiction leads to the testing of an alternate model for melodrama and an illumination of the play's structure by means of this model. The resulting analysis points clearly to the need for more theoretical work into the nature of melodrama.

As more and more communication courses deal with the subjects of conflict and communication theory, the more it becomes necessary to find an appropriate framework for presenting this subject matter. The framework offered here is based on three different types of communication that can occur within any conflict state: tacit, implicit, and explicit.
