In a material consisting of 1,100 consecutive needle biopsies Mallory bodies have been found in 62. Of these 17 show fatty infiltration (corresponding to 7 per cent of the total number of specimens showing fatty infiltration in the material) and 45 (corresponding to 37 per cent) show cirrhosis and fatty infiltration, while Mallory bodies have not been demonstrated in biopsies without fatty infiltration. The incidence of Mallory bodies in non selected materials of cirrhosis with fatty infiltration appears to be between 25 and 40 per cent.
