In January 2006, several cataloguers from across the Caribbean embarked on a project to participate in the Library of Congress' Name Authority Control program. The aim of this initiative was to enable the cataloguers to create and enhance name authority records for the English-speaking Caribbean in the Library of Congress' Name Authority database through the Caribbean Funnel. The project is important to the Caribbean because it offers the region's cataloguers the opportunity to submit headings which adequately express Caribbean nomenclature to the Name Authority File (NAF). It also serves to encourage librarians to become active participants in shaping one of the cataloguing tools used quite frequently in the region. Consequently, the team envisages a significant input into the LC authority database and hopes to expand the project to encompass other Caribbean cataloguers and language groups in the future. This article presents the history and evolution of the project, the challenges that were encountered, the current project status, and the future vision of the team.

This article presents a bibliometric analysis of 282 LIS publications, retrieved from LISA and Library Literature, on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The purpose was to study the periodic growth, topical emphasis, author patterns, and source journals and their origin. This literature started growing during the 1970s and reached its peak during the 1990s. Most of the literature is descriptive, with a research component reasonable but growing. Subject emphasis is on IT applications, electronic information resources, LIS education, academic libraries, and information seeking and use. Author collaboration is limited and single-authored publications dominate the literature. Most of the publications are contributed by the expatriates. American and British journals produce most of the literature. It makes several recommendations to improve the quality of literature.

In this age of globalization, knowing users and meeting their information needs is increasingly becoming a challenge. There is a strong international student and faculty presence at many academic institutions. Information providers must adapt their marketing skills, print and online collections, services, and workforce in order to meet the information needs of such a clientele. Given this scenario, what role can librarians play in providing a learning environment that enables international students to realize their potential? How can librarians engage various student bodies to utilize information services for their academic needs?
