Performancerelated pay PRP is becoming a fashionable concept inBritain nowadays, but there is a shortage of detailed examination of howsuch systems work in practice. To help alleviate this, a case study ispresented of a scheme introduced into a company in the financialservices sector. Although PRP may offer a way forward for companiesseeking to maximise productivity from wage costs, there is no guaranteethat it will prove adaptable enough to survive far into the future.

Variations in the Personnel Role Some Irish Survey Evidence

This article is based on a survey of personnel practitioners inIrish organisations, aimed at establishing their role and status withinthe company for which they worked. The principal findings from thesurvey suggest that the majority of personnel practitioners are affordeda top management role, and feel that they are heavily involved instrategic planning decisions within their organisations. The majorfactor which led to differences in the role of personnel was thenational origin of the company which owned the site at which theseindividuals worked.
