The technique described was found effective for raising a variable to a power, especially when the variable goes through zero. Over the range of exponents that was tested, the suggested circuit has better accuracy than the conven tional log-antilog circuit with automatic scaling. The tech nique described uses more equipment, but it can be modi fied to handle negative powers, varying powers, and com puter calculation of scale factors.

This paper presents a mathematical model of dynamic and steady-state heat transfer in the continuous casting process which considers heat transfer through both dimensions of the cross section of the cast section. The steady-state ver sion of the model has been tested against heat transfer and operating data reported in the literature.
