GREASE PUMPABILITY

WYLLIE, D.

1972 Industrial Lubrication and Tribology

doi: 10.1108/eb052998

The factors governing the flow properties of grease are discussed with particular reference to the RN multipurpose grease XG274 and the soft limebase grease LG380. Results obtained at 70F using a pumping rig with pipes of inch, inch or inch external diameter are presented in terms of apparent viscosity in line with the procedure approved by the National Lubricating Grease Institute. The data can be used to assess the suitability of systems proposed for dispensing the greases, supplemented where necessary by apparent viscosity measurement by Standard Method ASTMD 1092.

NEW PROCESS TO PROVIDE THICK PTFE COATINGS

1972 Industrial Lubrication and Tribology

doi: 10.1108/eb052999

POLYTETRAFLUORETHYLENE PTFE is well known as an antifriction material due to its low friction and nonstick properties. PTFE coatings provide an economical method of combining the strength and rigidity of the substrate with these properties of the polymer. However, until now, coating processes have been either expensive or limited to thicknesses which were often below the requirements for long life.

ARSENIC THIOANTIMONATE GREASE ADDITIVES

1972 Industrial Lubrication and Tribology

doi: 10.1108/eb053000

A PAPER presented to the National Lubricating Grease Institute at Philadelphia in October 1971, by W. H. Chappell and J. R. Soulen Pennwalt Corporation gave details of laboratory test results of behaviour of a new complex sulphide, arsenic thioantimonate, AsSbS4ATA. This product provided excellent E.P. and antiwear properties in mineral oil, ester, and silicone base fluids with both soap and clay type thickeners.

MONSANTO'S HIGH TRACTION SANTOTRAC

1972 Industrial Lubrication and Tribology

doi: 10.1108/eb053001

IN OUR December issue we mentioned the new material Santotrac, a new synthetic lubricant from Monsanto having unusually high traction properties which, we remarked, could change oil ideas about power transfer by greatly improving the costperformance ratio of mechanical traction drives. We now have more technical information about this product.
