Immediate Forearm Reconstruction with a Functional Latissimus Dorsi Island Pedicle Myocutaneous Flap
doi: N/Apmid: N/A
The management of extensive upper-limb trauma has changed radically in the last 10 years with advances in the fields of replantation, flap surgery, and microsurgery. Cases that would have come to early amputation are now yielding functional limbs. Multistaged reconstructive procedures are often required prior to obtaining such final results. The following case report illustrates a technique of immediate reconstruction of a massive volar forearm defect. This procedure provides both soft-tissue coverage and a functional muscle unit without the need for staged flap coverage or later microvascular free flap procedures.
