Abstract The study of cultural patterns is recommended as part of the basic physical therapy curriculum. An awareness of cross-cultural differences, especially with respect to medical attitudes and beliefs, can help prepare the student to overcome potential communication barriers and misunderstandings in the therapist-patient relationship which may decrease treatment effectiveness. A questionnaire survey is described which documents the extent to which sociocultural content is currently included in curricula. Ways of incorporating cultural studies into the curriculum are suggested. This content is only available as a PDF. © 1973 by the American Physical Therapy Association, Inc
