The effects of phase composition of castable experimental and commercial alloys based on the Mg-Al, Mg-Al-Mn, Mg-Al-Zn-Mn, and Mg-Zn-Zr systems and of the form of existence of iron and hydrogen admixtures on the rate of corrosion of the alloys in 3% solution of NaCl are studied. The roles of heat treatment in the processes of hydrogen charging and phase formation in alloy ML5pch and of hydrogen in the process of formation of zirconium hydrides and zinc zirconides in alloys of the Mg-Zn-Zr system and their effect on the corrosion and mechanical properties of alloy ML12 are discussed.

Results of a study of the content of gases (the content of absorbed hydrogen in the first turn) in alloys of the Mg-REM and Mg-Zn-Zr-REM systems and of its effect on the mechanical an corrosion properties of these alloys are presented. The use of the process of flux-free melting with ultrasonic treatment of the melt during crystallization is recommended as an effective technique for concentrating the elevated content of gases in complexly alloyed alloys of type VMD7 and VMD10.

Special features of deformation at elevated temperature and of changes in the microstructure of a typical magnesium alloy AZ31 used for sheet forming are studied in the process of many-stage gas bulging forming with formation of a round cup. The processes of dynamic recrystallization, slip over grain boundaries, and initiation of pores are considered as the main mechanisms of straining.

The kinetics of aging and mechanical properties of aluminum alloys of the Al-Cr-Sc system bearing about 0.4% Sc and up to 0.8% Cr and mechanical properties of alloys of the Al-4.5% Mg-Cr-Sc system with about 0.4% Sc and up to 0.3% Cr are studied. The effect of scandium and chromium additives on the structure and strength characteristics of aluminum alloys is determined. The hardness and the electric resistivity of the alloys are measured in the process of aging at 350°C for up to 64 h.

The phase composition and mechanical properties of rolled thick sheets from pipe steel 05G1MB produced by different modes of controlled rolling with accelerated cooling are studied. The effects of the temperature and deformation regime, of the final rolling temperature, and of the temperature of the start of accelerated cooling on the phase composition of the rolled sheets are considered. The temperature range in which intense reduction during rolling should be avoided in order to keep niobium in the solid solution of the γ-phase and to ensure subsequent segregation of fine niobium carbides in ferrite is determined.
