During heat treatment, a temperature field that is nonunifonn through the section develops in the semifabricates [semifinished products] or the finished products, leading to the appearance of transitory thermal stresses σ1. If the level of these stresses exceeds the yield strength of the alloy at the corresponding temperature, plastic deformation takes place, leading to deformation of the semifabricate. After the temperature equalizes through the section of the semifabricate, there remains some residual deformation, which leads to the appearance of residual stresses σres. We shall present the results of studies of the thennal fields and the residual stresses through the section of plates of VT22 and VT23 titanium alloys and make some recommendations on selection of the heat treatment regimes for these alloys.
