Summary Thirty‐four patients with originally extensive psoriasis, for whom topical mustine treatment had been instituted more than one year previously, were successfully followed up. That the high allergy rate does not preclude the usefulness of this form of therapy in selected cases is well shown. Seventy‐one percent had a good result and over 50 per cent needed only occasional applications for ready control and use mustine as their treatment of choice. Forty‐seven percent developed allergy but 63 per cent of these were desnsitized.

Summary Using the double‐blind, paired compairson technique, halcinonide and betamethasone valerate creams were evaluated in 19 patients with psoriasis, seven with atopic dermatitis and one with eczematous dermatitis. Results after two weeks of therapy showed halcinonide to be comparable in efficacy to betamethasone valerate with excellent or good responses in 88 per cent of 27 patients.

Summary The direct immunofluorescent antibody technique was employed in the study of 33 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 51 patients with miscellaneous dermatoses and 12 normal controls. Positive “band” test was found in 14 patients, 11 of whom had SLE. The “band” was observed in 41 per cent of SLE involved skin biopsies and 32 per cent of the SLE uninvolved skin biopsies. The major immune complex components in the eleven “band” positive SLE cases were, in order of frequency, IgM, IgG, complement (C3), IgA and fibrinogen. A majority (63.4 per cent) demonstrated the “homogenous” band pattern which was commonly associated with deposition of IgM and IgG. “Thready” band pattern was present in a third of the positive biopsies and was formed mainly by IgG and complement (C3). “Stippled” band pattern was seen in four biopsies only. “Band” positive patients had a higher incidence of systemic involvements and autoantibodies, and a poorer prognosis than the negative group. Comparisons are made of the above findings with those reported in other series. The results and other findings are then discussed.

Summary The case is described of a 20‐year‐old part‐aboriginal woman who developed lymphangitic sporotrichosis, probably as a result of a rose thron injury. Diagnosis was delayed because of the scarcity of this condition in Western Australia, and initial treatment was inappropriate. Therapeutic response to iodides however, was dramatic and complete. This is the second report from Western Australia, and the first in which a part‐aboriginal has been infected.
