From the ICSU Liaison Officer From the ICSU Liaison Of cer Yasuhiro Anraku My of cial capacity as a member of the IUBMB Executive Committee (EC) is to act as a liaison with the International Council for Science (ICSU) and to establish bridges with other International Scienti c Unions for joint activities and interdisciplinary cooperation. This portfolio was established in 1982. My predecessors were Jorge E. Allende (1982 – 91) and Arnost Kotyk (1991 – 97). Currently, I am also the Chairperson of the Wood –Whelan Research Fellowships Committee, and the liaison member for the EC to the Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB). Speci cally, the ICSU Liaison Of cer represents the IUBMB at the General Assembly of ICSU and keeps the Union informed on all matters that concern the IUBMB/ICSU relationship, ² maintains contact with the other BioUnions and mediates collaborative activities with them, ² reports to the EC on the plans and activities of ICSU and other Unions, and seeks the opinion of the EC on the positions to be taken by the IUBMB, ² submits to ICSU requests for nancial assistance, either from the IUBMB alone or in cooperation with other bodies. ² Before describing http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png IUBMB Life Wiley
