Students interested in the cultural, political, and literary history of the region since independence will find the book to be a pivotal contribution to scholarly conversations on nation and state formation, political identities, the development of the meanings of citizenship, and intersections of politics and cultural production throughout the 1800s. Specific chapters or the entire book would be well placed in graduate seminars, too, depending on the scope of the courses.
