Also, more information about audiences--who they were, how they responded--would have been helpful. But these are minor quibbles in an otherwise excellent text. Overall, America's Japan is a fairly advanced exploration of the construction and creation of a performed "Japan" in New York City over the past sixty years. Scholars of inter/cross/trans-cultural performance and audience reception theory will find much of value in the text.
