APCG Distinguished Service Award

APCG Distinguished Service Award APCG YEARBOOK · Volume 74 · 2012 The Association of Pacific Coast Geographers is pleased to present its Distinguished Service Award to Jim Allen from California State University, Northridge. The award is intended to recognize geographers for their service to students, the discipline, the larger community, and the APCG in specific. Dr. Allen has excelled in all of these areas and is very deserving of this, the highest recognition of the APCG. Dr. Allen's enthusiasm for geography is evident in a variety of ways, and he translates that to students by leading creative field trips. Early in his career, he was known to hop freight trains with students to help them learn economic and political geography. Over the years, he has received accolades from students for his enthusiastic and interesting teaching in the classroom. One student appreciated the way Dr. Allen "brought forth a passion for geography that I wasn't aware I had." His support for students in their efforts to master the material was recognized by another student who said, "He helped me a lot through my Population Geography and Senior Project so gets much respect for that... after giving me a D in Intro to Geography." http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Yearbook of the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers University of Hawai'I Press
