That the book is the product of an illuminating meeting does seem to inï¬uence its commitment to the exterior and interior lives of the people who create, are the subjects of, and engage with cinema in general and European ï¬lms in particular. As this volume profusely illustrates, European cinema is constructed in and through the connections between psychic reality and the imposing world as we know it. The Couch and the Silver Screen amply and at times brilliantly reï¬ects and refracts the full spectrum light that cinema and psychoanalysis emit.
