$long duration of ventricular repolarization and the fact that a wide variety of factors including heart rate, level of autonomic tone and electrolyte balance influence the process present problems in methodology for studying ventricular repolarization in intact preparations. For these reasons, ventricular repolarization in intact hearts has been less completely defined than ventricular activation sequence. However, some progress has been made in acquiring data about Society H391 31, 33, 34). The data have been acquired by both indirect analysis of electrocardiographic wave form and by a variety of measurement and recording techniques. In the first section of this review, information concerning the normal distribution of ventricular repolarization properties will be presented. Models relating ventricular transmembrane action potential form to the ST-T deflection of the body surface electrocardiogram will be presented in the second section. The third section will review studies relating disparity of ventricular functional refractory periods to vulnerability to arrhythmias, and the final section will discuss methods of analyses of body surface electrocardiograms designed to detect patients at risk of developing ventricular arrhythmias.$
