MATERIAL AND METHODS Materials ACh perchloe and atropine sulfate (both from Sigma Chemical, St. Louis, MO) were dissolved in distilled water. Tetrodotoxin (Calbiochem Behring Diagnostics, La Jolla, CA) and ti-conotoxin GVIA (Sigma) were dissolved in 0.01 N acetic acid. [Methyl-3Hjcholine chloride (Amersham International) was dissolved in pure ethanol. Ionomycin (Sigma) was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide. Physostigmine (eserine salicylate, Sigma) was used as an anticholinesterase, and hemicholinium-3 (Sigma) was used to prevent neural reuptake of choline.
